Mamata Banerjee warns doctors to resume duty within 4 hours

She directed the police that if the agitating junior doctors do not join duty then they have to vacate their hostels.

KOLKATA: Bengal CM Mamata Banerjee on Thursday asked the doctors on strike to join duty within 4.30 pm today. She warned that if they fail to provide service to the patients then strong action would be taken against them.

Following an attack on junior doctors on Monday at NRS medical college hospital after the death of a patient, the doctors had observed a state-wide strike on Wednesday and even private hospital doctors had joined the agitation. One of the injured doctors is undergoing treatment at Institute of Neuroscience, Kolkata.

The CM went to SSKM hospital on her way to the Secretariat and met the agitating doctors and asked the junior doctors to resume duty immediately. She asked the police to point out the agitating doctors who were creating trouble in hospital as services were affected for over 48 hours. She said that the way doctors were behaving and harassing patients was something unbecoming of a doctor.

She directed the police that if the agitating junior doctors do not join duty then they have to vacate their hostels. The agitating junior doctors shouted slogans in front of the CM as they demanded justice.Even a section of the junior doctors sat on the road in front of SSKM hospital to block the passage of the CM.
