KOLKATA: App-cab operators on Friday threatened a complete shutdown across the city on July 1 and 2 to protest against aggregators` refusal to release drivers who have been blocked on "flimsy ground".

They also demanded greater share of fare for driver-partners and a complete transparency in the fare system.West Bengal Online Cab-Operators` Guild, which has called the strike, had written a letter to both Uber and Ola with a seven-day ultimatum to fulfill their demands.

"But none replied. The time limit expired on Thursday. We are now going for the strike," said guild`s convenor Indranil Banerjee.

According to the guild, more than 20,000 app cabs are expected to go off the road on Monday and Tuesday. "We have also sought government`s intervention for non-compliance of state mandate. Both the aggregators are habitual violators of government rules," said Paromita Ghosh, a member of the guild.

Many app-cab drivers, however, doubted the veracity of the demands raised by the guild. In the past, many had decided to continue with the service even when the guild staged an agitation.
