SSKM security staff assaulted by family members of patient

Kolkata: A security staff at the SSKM Hopsital was allegedly assaulted by family members of a patient on Thursday morning. According to sources, on Thursday morning a patient identified as Narayan Chandra Bagchi from Howrah was brought to SSKM Hospital in critical condition. After reaching the emergency ward, security staff were asked to provide a trolley. It is alleged that the security person took a lot of time to bring the trolley whereas security person claimed that he brought the trolley within 2-3 minutes. Later, they were produced at the Bankshall Court and the person who had allegedly slapped the security person has been remanded to judicial custody.

Later, two accused persons were arrested andwere produced at the Bankshall Court, one of them was granted bail and the main accused has been remanded to judicial custody. According to sources, on Thursday morning a patient identified as Narayan Chandra Bagchi from Howrah was brought to SSKM Hospital in critical condition. After reaching the emergency ward, security staff were asked to provide a trolley. It is alleged that the security person took a lot of time to bring the trolley whereas security person claimed that he brought the trolley within 2-3 minutes. Due this, one of the relatives of Bagchi allegedly slapped the security person on his ear. He ear started bleeding. The police personnel from SSKM Police Out Post intervened and detained two persons. Soon, police from Bhowanipore police station reached the hospital and arrested the duo. Later, they were produced at the Bankshall Court and the person who had allegedly slapped the security person has been remanded to judicial custody. According to police, as per the instruction from senior officials, a case in non-bailable section has been initiated. Approximately a month ago, situation turned worse after relatives of a patient assaulted junior doctors at NRS Medical College and Hospital, which triggered a massive protest by the doctors across the state. After several days of impasse in the medical sector, due to cease-work by the doctors, Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee intervened and managed to bring the situation under control. She had met a team of doctors and heard their demands. Later, Banerjee instructed police to increase security and asked the Commissioner of Police Kolkata, Anuj Sharma to appoint a nodal officer for security in the city hospitals. She had also instructed police to take stringent action and lodge cases in non-bailable sections against the accused persons who were involved in assaulting hospital staff and other employees.
