OC of Tollygunge Police Station ousted

Three more people have been arrested in the police personnel assault case, including the youth, who was detained for driving in drunken state. On Tuesday DC, South, submitted a report to Sharma, in which the Officer-in-Charge of Tollygunge was held responsible for what happened on Sunday. It was also mentioned in the report that OC did not properly inform the DC, South, due to which immediate action could not be taken. Following the report submitted on Tuesday, Ghosh was removed from the post of OC, Tollygunge police station on Wednesday. Saroj Praharaj, who was the OC of South Port police station, will replace him.

Kolkata: The Officer-in-Charge (OC) of Tollygunge Police Station has been removed for allegedly not following proper procedure on Sunday night in maintaining law and order situation and failing to inform his superior officials about the assault incident on the police. Three more people have been arrested in the police personnel assault case, including the youth, who was detained for driving in drunken state. According to sources, after Anup Ghosh, the Officer-in-Charge of Tollygunge police station was show-caused, Kolkata Commissioner of Police Anuj Sharma sought a report from the Deputy Commissioner (DC), South, Meeraj Khalid about the Sundays law and order situation and assault on police personnel inside Tollygunge police station. On Tuesday DC, South, submitted a report to Sharma, in which the Officer-in-Charge of Tollygunge was held responsible for what happened on Sunday. It was also mentioned in the report that OC did not properly inform the DC, South, due to which immediate action could not be taken. Following the report submitted on Tuesday, Ghosh was removed from the post of OC, Tollygunge police station on Wednesday. Saroj Praharaj, who was the OC of South Port police station, will replace him. Sources said the DC was unaware of Sunday nights incident as OC stated that the situation has been taken care of and there was no problem. On Monday morning, the DC came to know about the incident from media. CP also came to know about the incident from television channels following which he asked for an detailed report from DC, South. On Tuesday night, raid were conducted at multiple places and three more persons involved in the assault of police personnel on Sunday night were arrested, including the youth identified as Ranajoy alias Tulai , who was detained on Sunday night for riding his bike in drunken state. Two other arrested persons were identified as Akash Bose and Akshay. In a significant move, on Wednesday, Public Prosecutor at the Alipore Court appealed before the court to add Section 332 (voluntarily causing hurt to deter public servant from his duty) IPC to the case. Earlier, when the case was initiated on Monday, the accused persons were charged with assault or criminal force to deter public servant from discharge of his duty and allegations of rioting and unlawful assembly. However, there were no mention of police personnel getting injured in the incident. Seven people were arrested in the case till Wednesday. Police sources claimed several more persons have been identified in the CCTV footage and cops are looking for them.
