Kolkata: The state government has allotted a fund of Rs 7 crore to check the spread of dengue in the state. The government on Monday announced the disbursement of the fund, which will be utilised for buying kits and medicines. The state has asked the Health department to contain the disease in all districts. With the fresh allotment of the government fund anti-dengue drives will be further intensified in the state. The development comes on the heels of dengue outbreak in parts of North 24-Parganas. The Health department has also been asked to procure anti-dengue kits and circulate them to all the districts so that proper steps can be taken before the situation turn worse. The government has asked the Health department to buy larvicide and send them to the districts so that they can be used by the district administration in the potential mosquito-breeding areas. A larvicide is an insecticide that destroys the larvae of mosquitoes. The state government is trying to ensure that no dengue cases are reported in the districts after many were affected with the disease in parts of North 24-Parganas. State Health department said the situation in some parts of North 24-Parganas was under control and various preventive measures had been taken up to check the spread of the disease in the district. According to a Health department official, five persons died of dengue in the district so far and more than 2,000 patients have been affected with the disease. A Health department official asked the district administration and various municipalities in the affected areas to implement the guidelines laid down by the department to control the outbreak of the disease in Habra and its adjoining districts. A senior health department official said there was an outbreak of dengue in some pockets of Habra and its adjoining areas but the situation had been brought under control. The disease started subsiding from the last week. The Health officials also believe that heavy shower in various South Bengal districts will destroy mosquito larvae.
