On duty police officer assaulted at Hiland Park

Kolkata: Police personnel were assaulted during naka-checking on Sunday night in front of Hiland Park. According to the police, on Sunday night, Purba Jadavpur police station and Survey Park police station were conducting naka-checking in front of Hiland Park. At the naka-checking point, the bike was stopped by Sergeant Satyendra Kunwar and other police personnel of Survey Park police station. Seeing the superior officer getting assaulted, a constable and CV tried to resist. Later a case was initiated against him on charges of obstructing public servant in discharge of public functions, voluntarily causing hurt to deter public servant from his duty and assault or criminal force to deter public servant from discharge of his duty.

Kolkata: Police personnel were assaulted during naka-checking on Sunday night in front of Hiland Park. The accused person reportedly bit on the finger of a Civic Volunteer (CV) and tried to overpower the police. Later, he was arrested. According to the police, on Sunday night, Purba Jadavpur police station and Survey Park police station were conducting naka-checking in front of Hiland Park. Around 12 am, police personnel saw four persons on a bike. They were moving towards them along the Service Road. At the naka-checking point, the bike was stopped by Sergeant Satyendra Kunwar and other police personnel of Survey Park police station. After stopping the accused, the bike rider identified as Amit Kabiraj of Mukundapur was asked to provide the documents of the bike. He was prosecuted for dangerous driving, riding without helmet and riding with more than one pillion rider. It was also found that Kabiraj was riding on the bike in drunken condition. Hearing this, Kabiraj allegedly started misbehaving with police personnel. He even used abusive words. After a few minutes of altercation, Kunwar warned Kabiraj that his behavior may attract penal charges against him. Hearing this, Kabiraj allegedly pushed Kunwar. Seeing the superior officer getting assaulted, a constable and CV tried to resist. When the CV identified as Bijoy Bhowmik tried to stop him from assaulting Kunwar, Kabiraj allegedly bit on his left hands middle finger. The CV hand started bleeding. Following the incident, other police personnel were able to overpower Kabiraj and detained him. He was taken to Survey park police station. Later a case was initiated against him on charges of obstructing public servant in discharge of public functions, voluntarily causing hurt to deter public servant from his duty and assault or criminal force to deter public servant from discharge of his duty. Kabiraj was also prosecuted as per the provisions of Motor Vehicles Act for driving by a drunken person or by a person under the influence of drugs, violating safety measures for drivers and pillion riders and not wearing protective headgear.
