Kolkata: The Regional Meteorological Centre in Alipore on Wednesday predicted moderate to heavy rainfall in the Western districts while the various South Bengal districts, including the city are expected to receive scattered rainfall in the next 24 hours. The MeT office prediction also says that all the North Bengal districts will also receive a heavy shower in the next 48 hours. An alert has been issued to the fishermen in the coastal districts urging them not to venture into the sea as it may remain turbulent. "The Western districts like Purulia, Bankura, West Midnapore, Jhargram, West Burdwan will receive a heavy rainfall. The coastal districts may also witness moderate to heavy rainfall as a low pressure currently situated over Odisha coast has started moving towards the Bengal. The coastal districts have been asked to remain alert as the sea may turn turbulent," a senior official of the Alipore MeT office said on Wednesday. The weather official also pointed out that fishermen have been asked not to go to the sea in the next 48 hours to avoid any mishap. The city along with other South Bengal districts may receive scattered rainfall. The highest temperature in the city will remain around 34 degree Celsius and the lowest temperature will hover around 28 degree Celsius in the next 24 hours. In the past 24 hours the highest temperature was recorded at 33.7 degree Celsius in the city. The North Bengal districts like Darjeeling, Jalpaiguri, Cooch Behar, Alipurduar, Kalimpong will witness heavy showers in the next two days. The weather officials are apprehending that there may be considerable rainfall in the South Bengal districts at the beginning of the next month. It may be mentioned here that there has been a deficiency in rainfall in June and July but the recent heavy rainfall in the South Bengal reduced the level to around 22 per cent than what remained over 50 per cent. Some parts of the citys sky may remain cloudy on Wednesday.
