Kolkata: The Narcotics Cell of detective department in Kolkata Police arrested a man with additive substances suspected to be heroin worth Rs 45 lakh from Narkeldanga on Sunday. As the Durga Puja is just round the corner, it is feared that the menace of drug peddlers and narcotics racketeers may intensify. According to the police, on Sunday, officials of Narcotics Cell came to know from their source that a man would reach Narkeldanga with huge quantity of addictives substances. Based on the information, the police started gathering intelligence inputs from the area and found about the place where the suspect will come. As soon as the place was located, a police team conducted raid at the place and found 400 grams of brown-coloured powder, which was suspected to be heroin. The person, who was carrying the powder, was detained. The man, identified as Santipada Pal of Kaligunj in Nadia, tried to mislead the police team by saying that he was not carrying addictive substances. The police suspect that the powder is heroin and it is worth about Rs 45 lakh. However, Pal could not render any satisfactory answer about the powder. Later, he was arrested and the powder was seized. Sources informed that Pal said that he is doing the illegal business for quite a long time. He also said he came to Kolkata with good quantity of heroin and other narcotic elements several times. The police are interrogating him to identify the others in the racket. Pal is a carrier in the racket. A case has been initiated at the Narkeldanga police station against Pal. Earlier, Special Task Force (STF) of Kolkata Police arrested several narcotic racketeers and seized huge quantity of narcotic elements from the city. During the past few months narcotic elements and drugs worth several crore of rupees were seized which triggered tension among the police.
