Panic over NRC leads to youth s suicide

Kolkata: A youth from Domkal in Murshidabad reportedly committed suicide due to panic over National Register of Citizens (NRC). It is alleged that the youth identified as Milan Mondal heard some rumours about NRC and got tensed about the documentation process. Hearing the rumor, Mondal checked his own and his family's documents and found some information were need to be rectified. On Monday night, after his family members went to sleep, Mondal reportedly hanged himself from the ceiling fan. Several government officials said people are thinking this has some connection with NRC which is absolutely wrong.

Kolkata: A youth from Domkal in Murshidabad reportedly committed suicide due to panic over National Register of Citizens (NRC). It is alleged that the youth identified as Milan Mondal heard some rumours about NRC and got tensed about the documentation process. Mondal, a resident of a village in Domkal used to work in Kerala. A few days ago he returned home. Meanwhile, a rumor was spread in the area regarding NRC. It was reported that people in the area were talking about rectifying the mistakes in their documents. Hearing the rumor, Mondal checked his own and his familys documents and found some information were need to be rectified. Also, he tried to getsome documents from government departments. After a few days of effort, he failed to correct all the documents and went into depression. On Monday night, after his family members went to sleep, Mondal reportedly hanged himself from the ceiling fan. His mother spotted his hanging body a few hours later. Sources informed that work of inclusion of names in Khadya Sathi and rectification of details in digital ration card is at present going on. Several government officials said people are thinking this has some connection with NRC which is absolutely wrong. Despite repeated statements by the state government people are believing in the rumors and gathering in the block offices for rectification of their documents.
