Metro services affected after man commits suicide

Kolkata: Metro services were disrupted after a man committed suicide by jumping in front of a train at Gitanjali Station on Monday. The RPF and Metro personnel rushed to the spot to rescue the victim from the railway tracks. According to sources, the incident took place at 9.27 am. Metro services were suspended from 9.35 am to 10.05 am between Netaji Bhavan Metro Station and Kavi Subhash. The commuters faced serious inconvenience as the incident took place during peak hour.

Kolkata: Metro services were disrupted after a man committed suicide by jumping in front of a train at Gitanjali Station on Monday. The train was entering the station when the victim jumped on the tracks. The driver of the train applied emergency brakes to stop the train. The power connection was immediately disconnected by the Metro railway authorities. The incident triggered panic among passengers who were standing at the platform to catch a train. The RPF and Metro personnel rushed to the spot to rescue the victim from the railway tracks. It was learnt that he received serious injuries and was immediately rushed to MR Bangur Hospital in Tollygunge. He was declared brought dead. According to the police, the deceased has been identified as Haran Chandra Majumdar, a resident of Ramnagar. According to sources, the incident took place at 9.27 am. Metro services were suspended from 9.35 am to 10.05 am between Netaji Bhavan Metro Station and Kavi Subhash. Normal services resumed at 10.05 am. The commuters faced serious inconvenience as the incident took place during peak hour. Many of the passengers took buses to reach their offices. The trains were overcrowded when normal services resumed.
