Kolkata: Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee on Wednesday said a sincere investigation carried out by the Murshidabad police led to the arrest of the accused in Jiaganj case. Taking to Twitter, Banerjee said: "Persistent and sincere investigation of the Jiaganj PS murder case of Murshidabad has resulted in a person confessing the crime and his arrest. He had financial transactions and animosity with the deceased person. Prayer of police custody is being made before the court." Banerjee tweeted that the district police and CID will collect more information to ascertain the involvement of the accused. "District Police and CID will continue the investigation to find out more evidence to prove the involvement of the arrested person in the crime including the involvement of anyone else," Banerjee tweeted. The state BJP politicized the whole incident and wanted to take mileage out of it. They claimed the victim as an RSS activist. Senior police officers in the state refuted BJPs claim. The district police on Tuesday arrested a person, identified as Utpal Behra, a week after the brutal triple murder had taken place. Senior police officers in the district claim that the murder was a result of a financial dispute and they also ruled out any political angle in the case. The district police statement assumed significance with the BJP desperately trying to give a political angle in the murder incident. Behra is assumed to be the main accused in this case. Bandhu Prakash Pal, his wife Beauty Pal and their five-year-old son Angan were found murdered at their home in Lebu Bagan area of Jiaganj on October 8. The accused, Behra has already been remanded in 14 days police custody. The police came to know that Behra bought the weapon on October 5 and kept it inside a bag till the day of the incident. The accused visited some Puja pandals during Durga Puja along with the bag. He had chalked out an elaborate plan how to carry out the crime on the day of Dashami.
