Deceased youth s family allege police inaction

Kolkata: Controversy sparked over the death of a youth at Nimta in North 24-Parganas. His family members allege that he has been murdered and the police refused to lodge any complaint in this regard. According to sources, on October 7, Debanjan was returning home on his car at Daga Colony in Nimta. Next day, his father Arun Das went to Nimta police station and saw the car at the police station. Arun alleged that as the vehicle was a top most variant of the car model, it has some security features such as airbags.

Kolkata: Controversy sparked over the death of a youth at Nimta in North 24-Parganas. The youth, identified as Debanjan Das (20), reportedly died in an accident on October 7. His family members allege that he has been murdered and the police refused to lodge any complaint in this regard. According to sources, on October 7, Debanjan was returning home on his car at Daga Colony in Nimta. Before that he dropped his girlfriend at her house in Birati, his car hit a post near No. 5 rail gate in Birati. Hearing the sound of accident, local residents came out of their houses and rushed Debanjan to a hospital where he was declared brought dead. Next day, his father Arun Das went to Nimta police station and saw the car at the police station. When he went to have a look, he found several ambiguities in the version of police. Arun alleged that as the vehicle was a top most variant of the car model, it has some security features such as airbags. In case of an accident, airbags come out to protect the passengers. Here none of the airbags were seen opened. He alleged that a bullet shell was found inside the car and two injury marks were seen on Debanjans body. It is alleged that when he wished to lodge a murder complaint, officials of Nimta police station denied to receive the complaint and forced Arun to believe that Debanjan died due to accident. Arun claimed that his sons girlfriend had a relationship earlier. However a few months ago, she broke up and got into a relationship with Debanjan. It is alleged that Debanjan used to get threats from her previous boyfriend. On Wednesday Arun said: "We will lodge a complaint. At present, we are checking the aspects of law." Deputy Commissioner of Belgharia Division of Barrackpore Police, Ananda Roy said: "If any complaint is made, investigation would be done."
