Kolkata: Presidency University will come up with a face sketch of Nobel laureate Abhijit Banerjee as a mark of tribute to him. The face sketch with 3D embossing will be created by a noted architect matching with the style of the Wall of Fame of the university that was created during the bicentenary celebration of the varsity in 2017. The place of installation will be decided soon. "The Planning and Development Council of the varsity met today (Thursday) where certain decisions were taken to honour Banerjee. Now, we have a panel of Nobel laureates as after Amartya Sen, Banerjee is the second alumni from the university to have won the prestigious Noble Prize," said Debojyoti Konar, Registrar of Presidency. The Wall of Fame has facsimiles of founders of the university along with some noted alumni who have made the university proud. "The plaque at the Economics department will be changed with texts about Banerjee and his contribution to be included in it," said Vice-Chancellor Anuradha Lohia. The university also plans to hold a lecture with Banerjee at the earliest opportunity when he pays a visit to Kolkata. "It has also been decided to immediately send some specially designed certificates to his residence in Kolkata as a tribute to him," Konar added. The university has also proposed to its Governing Board to invite Banerjee, his wife Esther Duflo and Michael Kremer, who were awarded the Noble Prize on Monday for their work in development economics, specifically experiments to identify the best way to combat poverty in its different forms. Banerjee did his Bachelors degree from Presidency College, Calcutta (now known as Presidency University, Kolkata) in 1981. He then went to pursue a Masters degree in economics at Jawaharlal Nehru University, Delhi in 1983. Later he moved to the United States to obtain a PhD in Economics at Harvard University in 1988.
