Five bogies detach from engine mishap averted

Kolkata: A major accident was averted after five bogies of a goods train got detached from its engine in Birbhum on Sunday. According to sources, the incident took place when the goods train carrying stones was crossing Murarai's Rajgram industrial area around 12 noon. After uploading stones, when the goods train moved 10 km, five of its bogies got detached from the engine. There was no loss of life as there was no movement of other trains at that time," said a railway official. "For the convenience of the passengers, Eastern Railway maintains shuttle services between Sealdah -Madhyamgram and the same were also on between Barasat - Hasnabad and Bangaon.

The rail authorities were then informed about the incident. There was no loss of life as there was no movement of other trains at that time," said a railway official. Meanwhile, train services on the Sealdah Bangaon and Sealdah Hasnabad sections were disrupted on Sunday morning as a lorry was disabled over level crossing gate number 11E between Barasat and Madhyamgram stations blocking both up and down lines. "For the convenience of the passengers, Eastern Railway maintains shuttle services between Sealdah -Madhyamgram and the same were also on between Barasat - Hasnabad and Bangaon. Crane arrived the site at 7.25 am and restoration work went on full swing," said an official of Eastern Railway. The official reiterated that the disabled lorry loaded with stone chips was removed at 9.45 am. "Fourteen EMU locals lost punctuality (2 UP and 12 DN). Eight UP EMU locals had to be cancelled," the official added.
