Film on Syria to be showcased at Kolkata Int Film Festival

Kolkata: A film on conflict of Syria has found place at the 25th Kolkata International Film Festival. The End Will Be Spectacular (Ji Bo Azadiyê), a 142-minute film, had its world premiere at Kolkata International Film Festival on Monday. The film is about Zilan, a young woman, who returns to her hometown to look for traces of her dead brother killed by Islamic State. While the Turkish army began to bomb parts of Kurdistan in Syria, we were under constant threat of attack on the movie set," said Diyar Hesso producer of the film. It is a self-financed film made with the efforts of hundreds of young filmmakers," said Ersin Celik, director of the film.

Social and political tensions have escalated conflicts, people have risen to demand their political autonomy and the police and army brutally repress them. The conflict in the town is likely to continue for more than 100 days and Zilan doesnt remain a mute spectator. "The film was shot in Kobanê, a Syrian town, close to Turkish border. I would like point out that the battle against ISIS was raging when we were shooting for the film. While the Turkish army began to bomb parts of Kurdistan in Syria, we were under constant threat of attack on the movie set," said Diyar Hesso producer of the film. The End Will Be Spectacular (Ji Bo Azadiyê) tells the real story of a group of young people who faced the army to defend their neighbourhood. "The script based on the diaries of those who died and the testimony of the survivors. It is an independent production of the Rojava Film Komina, a collective of young Kurdish filmmakers, who have come up to tell their stories. Such filmmakers understands cinema as necessary expression tool for a whole community. It is a self-financed film made with the efforts of hundreds of young filmmakers," said Ersin Celik, director of the film.
