Kolkata: Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee on Thursday came down heavily upon Maharashtra Governor Bhagat Singh Koshyari for recommending Presidents Rule in the state after the Assembly polls and said some people holding constitutional posts are acting like "mouthpieces of BJP". Her ire was also evidently directed against Bengal Governor Jagdeep Dhankhar, though Banerjee refrained from taking any names. "I generally do not comment on constitutional posts, but a few people (Governors) are acting just like BJPs mouthpieces. In my state too, you have seen what is going on — they want to run a parallel administration," Banerjee said while reacting to a poser on Koshyaris recommendation of the Presidents Rule. The Chief Minister reiterated that both the Central and state governments are elected by the people and the federal structure must work according to the Constitution. "They should be allowed to do so. The Central government should work as per constitutional provisions and the state should also do the same. But some nominated persons are exceeding their domain of work. They should not supersede the Central government. I think the Central government should take care of that," she asserted. Presidents Rule was imposed in Maharashtra on Tuesday after Koshyari stated in a report to the Centre that formation of a stable government was impossible in the current situation, despite all his efforts, drawing flak from non-BJP parties. Meanwhile, it may be recalled that since assuming office in July, Governor Jagdeep Dhankhar has often been critical of the ruling Trinamool Congress on various issues. Senior party leader and MoS Health Chandrima Bhattacharya said in this connection: "I dont know whether he can do such things like going to Singur and seek information about Nandigram. Such a thing has never happened in the past. He is going wherever he wants and just issuing a press release informing about his movement. But this is not enough. There is an elected government in our state but he is ignoring the rules. I dont know how he can do this. The people of the state feel that he is acting more like a political party representative than a Governor." According to Bhattacharya, Bengal is a politically aware state and such an attitude is unacceptable and unfortunate. "People of the state want him to work as per the parameters laid down by the Constitution. He is putting on political colours instead," she added. It may be mentioned that the Governor had recently gone to Jadavpur University to rescue Babul Supriyo, Union Minister of State for Forest, who had been gheraoed by several students of the university. The Governor had also alleged that he had been "humiliated" by the state government during the Red Road Carnival while on Thursday he alleged that the state government has refused to provide him with a helicopter.
