Kolkata: South Eastern Railway (SER) has undertaken precautionary measures to ensure safety and punctuality of train operation in foggy weather during winter. "South Eastern Railway has introduced Cold Weather Patrolling of railway track by deputing winter patrolmen with proper training and fog signals to warn loco pilots and guards about any eventuality. Specially trained trackmen and keymen have been deployed for monitoring of the tracks," said an official of SER. He reiterated that the deputed officials are monitoring the tracks during both day and night. Lime marking across the tracks at the sighting boards has been done. All signal sighting boards, whistle boards, lifting banners, fog signal posts and busy vulnerable level-crossing gates which are accident-prone have been painted. During dense foggy weather, loco pilots have been instructed to regulate train speed to a maximum of 60 km/h in poor visibility conditions for the safety of passengers and train movement. The speed of the train may be enhanced to 75 km/h, provided there in fog safety device in the locomotive.
