Task force instructs vegetable sellers to put up prices on slate

Kolkata: The task force has instructed vegetable sellers at all the markets in the city to put up a list of the prices of the items they are selling. The decision was taken after the task force came to know that the vegetable sellers are charging buyers exorbitantly. The task force asked the vegetable sellers to mention the prices of various items on a slate everyday and police personnel from the nearestpolice station will also keep a tab on the prices on a daily basis. Following the Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee's instructions, the members of the task force have been visiting different markets across the city to keep an eye on the escalating prices of daily commodities. Enforcement Branch raided various markets, including the VIP Market in Phoolbagan area, Koley market, Baithakkhana market, Gariahat market and Behala market.

The decision was taken after the task force came to know that the vegetable sellers are charging buyers exorbitantly. and they are lowering the prices when the Enforcement Branch (EB) officials are paying a visit to the markets. The task force asked the vegetable sellers to mention the prices of various items on a slate everyday and police personnel from the nearest police station will also keep a tab on the prices on a daily basis. Following the Chief Minister Mamata Banerjees instructions, the members of the task force have been visiting different markets across the city to keep an eye on the escalating prices of daily commodities. Worried over the price rise issues, Banerjee also instructed self-help groups to monitor the price of commodities in the market. It may be mentioned here that the Enforcement Branch of Kolkata Police have been conducting raids in city markets since the past few days, following Chief Ministers instruction. Enforcement Branch raided various markets, including the VIP Market in Phoolbagan area, Koley market, Baithakkhana market, Gariahat market and Behala market. EB officials found that in almost every market businessmen were demanding high prices. After being caught many of the sellers claimed that they were buying the vegetables at higher rate.
