Kolkata: The State Urban Development and Municipal Affairs minister Firhad Hakim, on Tuesday blamed the Centre for its failure to check incidents of ATM frauds in the state. While responding to a question raised by CPI(M) MLA Sujan Chakraborty, Hakim said in the Assembly that the Union Home Ministry is hardly taking any steps to check such bank grafts. The entire machinery of the central government is busy in heckling the opposition under various pretexts, Hakim alleged. "Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee had strongly protested against the Centres decision of Aadhar linking. Whom is the Centre safeguarding by linking Aadhaar," Hakim asked. Chakraborty during a session in the Assembly urged the state administration to come up with a guideline to combat the rising incidents of ATM frauds in the state. He also sought the attention of the entire House on the issue. During his answer, Hakim assured the House that the state government and police have already taken all possible measures to check the recurrence of such incidents. Incidentally, senior police officers in the city have been conducting raids at various ATM kiosks to check if there is any skimmer attached to ATM machines. The step has been taken up after some incidents of fraudulence were reported in the city over the past few days. The city police received around 22 complaints of people losing their money from their bank accounts through fraudulent means despite having their debit cards with themselves. The complaints have mostly come from Jadavpur area. Hakim also took a dig at the Narendra Modi government by saying: "First, they put people of the country in trouble by announcing demonetisation, and now they are allowing miscreants to loot public money. The money deposited with banks is not safe. The Union Home Ministry should have ensured the security of the depositors money. But in reality, they are busy in heckling the political parties who are raising their voice against the Centre."
