Kolkata: The Regional Meteorological Centre in Alipore on Friday predicted rainfall in North Bengal districts in the next 48 hours, due to the impact of western disturbances. Most of the South Bengal districts would stay dry but there may be light rainfall in some places. The weather officials believe that rainfall will pave the way for winter to set in. The citys sky will mainly remain cloudy on Saturday and Sunday morning. There may be morning mist early in the morning. It will, however, disappear as the day progresses. "Winter is expected to set in from early next week in full swing as the western disturbances cease to have an impact on the weather system in the state. It would rain in various parts of North Bengal in the next two days due to the impact of western disturbances that have already weakened. There will be no major rise and fall in the temperature in the state in the next 48 hours," a weather official said on Friday. According to the weather office, winter has eluded the state for a long time compared to the corresponding month last year, due to western disturbances that had been persistent for more than two weeks. This had resulted in preventing the steady flow of northern wind that brings the cold air to South Bengal districts from the Himalayan region. The weather office also said that Jammu Kashmir, Himachal Pradesh and Uttarakhand will receive heavy snowfall in the next 24 hours, which may partially have an impact on the weather system in the state. There is also a possibility for a low pressure trough to form in the state, which will eventually move towards the northeast direction of the state.
