Kolkata: New Town Kolkata Development Authority (NKDA) will give two containers to the residents to put wet and dry waste as a part of Green City Clean City drive. Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee had inaugurated the Green City and Clean City programme in October, 2016. A meeting was held between senior officials of NKDA and New Town residents at Rabindra Tirtha on Friday. Debashis Sen, chairman of New Town Kolkata Development Authority presided over the meeting. It has been proposed that NKDA will give Near Field Communication (NFC) enabled house tag to the residents for monitoring of solid waste collection. The residents took a pledge some months ago to put dry and wet waste in two containers. If waste is put in two separate containers then garbage will be segregated at source. The residents were shown how the modern technology will be used for proper monitoring of solid waste from individual households. It may be mentioned that Kolkata Municipal Corporation ( KMC) has not yet been able to segregate garbage at source. The residents expressed satisfaction over the steps taken by the NKDA authorities to check the spread of dengue. NKDA conducts anti larvae drive regularly along with clearing of garbage. Senior officials of NKDA urged those who were present at the meeting to ensure that there was no accumulation of water on the tray of the refrigerator or on the cooling duct of the air conditioner which serve as the breeding ground of dengue mosquitoes. The officials said to control dengue cooperation of the residents was required.
