Chakraborty appreciated the Chief Minister's move of visiting the markets to create awareness among people. During her visit to Posta Bazar, Banerjee came to know that some policemen had forced some shops at the market to close down.

Kolkata: In her relentless fight to ensure safety of people in the Coronavirus situation, Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee went out to visit various markets in the city on Thursday evening and made people aware about the precautionary measures to check the spread of COVID-19. The country witnessed a remarkable moment on Thursday when the Chief Minister herself picked up a piece of brick and started making circles on road to earmark the spots in front of vegetable shops where people should stand, maintaining safe distance while procuring essential commodities. She directed all vegetable sellers and shop owners at the markets to follow the same. She also demonstrated how a shopkeeper can hand over goods to their customers by maintaining safe distance. Banerjee visited markets including Posta Bazar, Jan Bazar, Gariahat Market and Lake Market, where she met Pandit Ajoy Chakraborty. She enquired about Chakrabortys health and also enquired about his daughter. Chakraborty appreciated the Chief Ministers move of visiting the markets to create awareness among people. Anuj Sharma, Commissioner of Kolkata Police, accompanied her during the visit. During her visit to Posta Bazar, Banerjee came to know that some policemen had forced some shops at the market to close down. She directed that the shops will remain open till 5 pm and workers will be staying at nearby dharmashalas. Devendra Prakash Singh, Additional Commissioner of Police (III) of Kolkata Police, will be the nodal officer to ensure proper functioning of the markets. Banerjee reiterated that retail markets should not stop. The Chief Minister on Thursday also visited a place on Rafi Ahmed Kidwai Road, where she found a roadside decoration and birds of foreign species kept in a cage as a part of it. She directed that zoo authorities should take over the same till the situation gets normalised. Meanwhile on Thursday, the state government issued a fresh order giving relaxations to the functioning of people "engaged in maintenance of critical infrastructure such as servers, telecom towers, National Informatics Centre and early warning agencies." Relaxations have also been given to transport, storage and sale of seeds, insecticides, pesticides and fertilisers. It has also been stated that any "private individual (not more than two people together) going to procure essential items and those engaged in delivery of newspapers need not have any movement passes."
