Battle COVID 19 Mamata lauds role of all frontline warriors

Kolkata: Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee on Sunday expressed her gratitude to doctors, nurses, conservancy workers and others for their "selfless" duties by "putting the interest of society above anything else" to save people during the COVID-19 outbreak. Lauding the role these people, Banerjee on Sunday tweeted: "I would like to convey my heartfelt gratitude & appreciation for all the Doctors, Nurses, Paramedical Staff, Police Personnel, Govt. Officials, Emergency Response Personnel, Sanitation Workers and Volunteers who have come forward in this hour of need to fight the COVID-19." In her tweet, she further stated: "No words are enough to thank these individuals who are standing up for the community and performing their duties selflessly in these times. They are putting the interest of society above anything else which makes their contribution and perseverance an inspiration for us all." Banerjee herself went to different hospitals on Tuesday to boost the morale of doctors and health workers. She is the first Chief Minister to visit hospitals in such an unprecedented time. The state government has taken a series of steps to ensure the safety of people. At the same time, the Mamata Banerjee government has also made all arrangements for doctors, health workers, conservancy workers and policemen who are working relentlessly to keep the states people safe. Giving priorities, masks and personal protective equipment (PPE) were provided to doctors and health workers in both hospitals in the city and districts. Arrangements were made at hotels near hospitals for the accommodation of doctors and health workers so that they do not have to travel a long distance and they were also provided with the transport facilities. Meanwhile, two persons including a 52-year-old anesthesiologist tested positive in Bengal on Sunday while a 44-year-old woman was found suffering from the disease on Saturday late night. The anesthesiologist practices in a hospital in the city and he has a history of visiting Delhi from where he returned to the city on March 16. A 21-year-old man has tested positive and has been admitted to a private hospital in Salt Lake. His brother who brought him to the hospital has also been put in quarantine. The total tally now has gone up to 21. In the wake of COVID-19 outbreak, the state government has taken a slew of measures for migrant labourers from other states who are stuck in Bengal. State Chief Secretary Rajiva Sinha on Sunday directed all district authorities to make adequate arrangements of temporary shelters and food for the poor and needy people including migrant labourers. This comes when there is a strict restriction on the inter-state movement of people and there was also a high-level meeting between the Centre and the state in this connection. Most importantly landlords of the establishments, where labourers including migrant ones are staying against rent, shall not demand the same for a period of one month and they should also not be forced to vacate the premises.
