Kolkata: In a bid to tackle the COVID–19 outbreak and to deal with any possible situation which may arise in the future, the state Health department has decided to operate a dedicated facility for Coronavirus affected patients at every district. The Health department officials are leaving no stones unturned to ensure timely treatment for all the COVID–19 suspected patients. One hospital in every district will be dedicated to the treatment of Corona affected and suspected patients so that people from the districts do not need to visit the city hospitals for the treatment. The step has been taken to put in place a backup system to curb the risk of Coronavirus. The Calcutta Medical College and Hospital (CMCH) in the city has already been declared as the dedicate hospital for Corona. The Health department has already written to the chief medical officer of health (CMoH) in all the 22 districts asking them to demarcate a hospital under their respective jurisdiction which can serve as a dedicated hospital for corona affected patients. The CMoHs will take the final decision on the selection of the hospitals after considering several aspects. The Health department has asked all the CMoHs to submit a detailed report in this regard. The CMoHs will have to inform the Health department as to why he/she has selected a particular hospital for providing a dedicated service. In their report, the CMoHs would have to mention the number of available beds in the hospitals they have chosen for the dedicated service and the strength of doctors, nurses and health workers. The district Health officials will also mention what is the required infrastructure to be put up for the smooth running of the hospitals. Director of Health Service Dr Ajay Chakraborty said a detailed report has been sought from all the district health officials. The final decision and the selection of hospitals in the districts will be done on the basis of the reports and suggestions from the district officials. Meanwhile, the North 24-parganas district administration has set up 31 quarantine centres at different places of the district. The step has been taken so that suspected patients from various sub-divisions can be easily taken to the quarantine centres situated close to their houses. All the five sub-divisions have got many quarantine centres so that affected patients in the nearby regions can be accommodated within the minimum possible time. The maximum number of such centres has come up at Basirhat sub-division, so that the people living in far-off areas can be easily transported to a quarantine centre in the vicinity. Gaighata Patha Sathi situated in Bongaon has come up with 83 beds, while Bagdah High School has received a quarantine centre with 70 beds.
