With 743 cases state touches highest single day spike so far

In a fresh case a nursing staff member from NRS Medical College and Hospital and seven other staff members tested positive. The Neurosurgery department of the SSKM has been closed on Saturday after six patients tested positive for the virus. A contractual staff of the Cricket Association of Bengal has also tested positive.

Kolkata: Bengal has witnessed a record number of Covid infected patients in a single day on Saturday so far as the figure touched 743. The total number of infected patients across the state has gone up to 21,231. Around 14,166 Covid affected patients have been released from various hospitals till Saturday out of which 595 patients were discharged in the past 24 hours. The state government has increased the number of COVID sample tests per day. On Saturday, a total 11,018 samples were tested across the state. The government has conducted a total of 5,30,072 sample tests so far. The percentage of positive cases out of sample tested stands at 4.01 per cent on Saturday. The total death toll across the state has gone up to 736 in the state so far till Saturday out of which 19 persons have died of the disease in the past 24 hours. Kolkata has recorded 242 new COVID cases in the past 24 hours. The total number of infected patients in Kolkata has reached 6,864. Around 164 new cases have been found in North 24-parganas in the past 24 hours and the total number of affected persons has reached 3,546. Howrah has seen a total 3,010 cases so far out of which 82 patients have been reported on Saturday. Around 97 new patients tested positive from South 24-Parganas and 24 in Hooghly. The total number of affected patients in Hooghly is 1,142 while in South 24-Parganas the figure stands at 1,351. Darjeeling has seen 23 fresh cases, Malda 40. Meanwhile, a senior official of a private nursing home in Lake Town who had been under ventilation at a private hospital after being tested positive for the COVID died at the hospital. The official, a resident of Vidyasagar Colony tested positive for the virus on June 22. He was initially admitted to the same nursing home where he used to work. He was shifted to a private hospital on EM Bypass on June 26. His wife also tested positive. In a fresh case a nursing staff member from NRS Medical College and Hospital and seven other staff members tested positive.
