CRPF add names of TMC defectors to cover poll bound state

Asked about the threat assessment in Bengal during the polls Singh, who is a West Bengal cadre IPS officer said that these assessments were done by the state authorities so that peaceful elections can be witnessed under the EC’s guidance.  

Amid the election campaigning, the political leaders ensure personal security. The CRPF (Central Reserve Police Force) has added names seven names as VIP protectors in poll-bound states of West Bengal. This includes Union Minister of the state for home Nityanand Rai, ex- Trinamool Congress leaders who joined BJP like Suvendu Adhikari, Rajeeb Banerjee, Sunil Kumar Mandal, and Arindam Bhattacharya, and Election Commission’s special police observers in the State Ajay Nayak and Vivek Dubey. They will be having  ‘Y’ security cover with escort coinciding with their assignment, they are believed to have been provided with EC’s request.

CRPF director Kuldiep Singh told in a press conference on Thursday that 725 companies of Central armed police forces would be deployed for the election in West Bengal of which 495 companies have already reached the state.

Those protected by CRPF which currently handles the security of 69 VIPs in Trinamool Congress state all over India earlier included West Bengal governor Jagdeep Dhankar, leader of Congress in Lok Sabha Adhir Ranjan Chaudhury, Union Minister Babul Supriyo, Bjp Bengal national security Rahul Sinha, ex-minister Mukul Roy, and BJP MP in Rajya Sabha Roopa Ganguly.
