Mega Feluda show to honour Ray on birthday

The Ray memorial lecture Aparna Sen is to give is the fifth one organized by the Society. As part of its dissemination campaign, the Society has begun to publish books by and on Ray. The speakers will include actors from Feluda films, like Sabyasachi Chakraborty, Dhritiman Chaterji, Paran Bandyopadhyay and Saheb Bhattacharya. Soumitra Chattopadhyay delivered the next lecture on the eve of Ray's 94th birth anniversary on May 1, 2015. Javed Akhtar gave the first lecture in 2009, followed by Shyam Benegal in 2012 and Naseeruddin Shah in 2014.

KOLKATA: The Satyajit Ray Society is all set to celebrate the 96th birth anniversary of the master director on May 2 with a five-day exhibition dedicated to Feluda , the super sleuth immortalised by Ray.The show — the first ever to be dedcated to Feluda — will have on display reproductions of pages from Ray's literary manuscripts, scripts for 'Sonar Kella' and 'Joi Baba Felunath', posters, sketches, illustrations, headpieces for stories and novels, book jackets, booklets, production stills showing Ray and his son Sandip directing Feluda movies and other such things. The exhibits will also be on sale."We never did an exhibition dedicated to Feluda on such a large scale before," said Sandip Ray.Other things on sale will include English translations of Feluda books, along with the Bengali originals, reproductions of booklets for the Feluda movies by Ray, picture postcards, t-shirts and notebooks.Actor and filmmaker Aparna Sen will deliver the memorial lecture at ICCR's Satyajit Ray Auditorium on April 29. The Feluda show will open at the Bengal Art Gallery of ICCR the following day and continue till May 4.The inauguration will be followed by a chat show at the auditorium. This year, however, Chattopadhyay — the first onscreen Feluda — and Siddhartha Chatterjee — the first Topshe — will not be present at the event.CEO Arup Kumar De said the Society, which came into being in 1994, has been working on restoration, preservation and dissemination of Ray's legacy. As part of its dissemination campaign, the Society has begun to publish books by and on Ray. It's most recent publication, jointly with HarperCollins, was 'The Pather Panchali Sketchbook', containing the entire visual storyboard Ray made for the film, elaborate texts and rare photographs, which it brought out in 2016.
