Vandalism case in hospital attack after infant death

KOLKATA: The police, on one hand, have started probing the alleged medical negligence case following the death of fourmonth-old Kuheli Chakraborty. On the other, they have quietly gone about registering a case of vandalism against "unknown" persons who had destroyed the front door of Apollo hospital while agitating on April 19. "We have registered a suo motu case in this regard. The police, though, remained tight-lipped on if they were contemplating to record any statement.The FIR states "around 50-60 unknown persons, including women, assembled unlawfully while staging an agitation at the lobby of Apollo Gleneagles Hospitals. The health commission has formed a probe panel to investigate charges against four Apollo doctors accused in the case.Interestingly, the complaint in this case (as accessed by TOI) shows that the case has been registered by sub-inspector Rajiv Prasad.

Along with documents related to the treatment of Kuheli at the Apollo and ESI Hospital, we have also sought CCTV footage of the incident so that we can identity the attackers," a senior officer at Lalbazar said. The police, though, remained tight-lipped on if they were contemplating to record any statement.The FIR states "around 50-60 unknown persons, including women, assembled unlawfully while staging an agitation at the lobby of Apollo Gleneagles Hospitals. The agitation was regarding medical negligence during the treatment of deceased baby namely Kuheli Chakraborty".The sections slapped include Section 4 of the West Bengal Medical Services Persons and Medicare Services Institution Prevention of Violence and Damage to Property Act, 2009 along with IPC sections 143 and 145 (pertaining to rioting) and 427 (mischief).
