Hundreds of pandals have already dolled up to enthrall the audience. After many brainstorming sessions, tedious work braving the unruly monsoons, the city is finally ready to welcome ‘Maa Uma’, the mountain goddess. Every Durga Puja organizer under the challenge of cut-throat competition has come up with a unique theme that is a delight to senses and spreads a message as well.

Abasar Sarbojonin Durgostav has tried to be brave with the concurrent theme of the sustainability of earth in the face of Global Warming. The pandal is structured as a globe and as one enters one can sense the Mother Nature’s fury in the shape of an impending tornado. The best part of this Durga Puja is the exquisite artwork done with 8000Kg of glass molded to perfection by artists from Ferozabad.

Sreebhumi Sporting Club of north Kolkata that has so long awed its worshipers with grand themes has accomplished the mammoth project of depicting the much-loved movie, ‘Baahubali’. The iconic ‘Mahismati’ kingdom has been created and the mighty elephants and huge chandeliers to make it to the pandals.

Deshapriyo Park Durgostav committee that had hit the headlines and was mired with criticism with a five million footfall and 88 feet gigantic idol in 2015 has taken up the most favoured tourist destination as its theme this year. A replica of a Thailand temple named Wat Rong Thun temple has been built with all white interiors and mirror trimmings. The pandal is sheer beauty without compromising on its aesthetic appeal.

Other prominent themes that have caught the attention of the frenzied crowd are ‘demonetization’, idols dressed by fashion designer, the theme of the music of the bygone era, the theme of Panchayati and much more.

The implementation of GST although has pinched the budget of the Durga Puja organizers but could not quite dampen it. Some of the Pandals will be available for a visit even before the Durga Puja starts from September 26. The countdown has already begun!
