(Express Photo) West Bengal BJP leader Mukul Roy on Tuesday met Governor Keshari Nath Tripathi at Raj Bhawan to apprise him of the controversy over the ownership of the ‘Biswa Bangla’ logo. On November 10, Roy had alleged that Abhishek Banerjee, nephew of Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee, owned ‘Biswa Bangla’, and it was not a government entity. Abhishek denied the charges and sent Roy a legal notice, asking him to either apologise within 48 hours or face legal consequences. Speaking to reporters outside Raj Bhawan, Roy said, “Government officers Atri Bhattacharya and Rajiva Sinha are not speaking the truth. They are trying to mislead the people of Bengal. The state government does not own the Biswa Bangla logo. How come they are claiming otherwise? The trademark journal published by the central government in May this year says the logo is owned by Abhishek Banerjee. I have already taken up this matter with the central government. Being the constitutional head of the state, I met with the Governor today (Tuesday), apprised him of the entire thing and gave him supporting documents.” Roy said he has also written to the Department of Personnel and Training regarding the statement given by Bhattacharya and Sinha. The state government had on Saturday reiterated that the Biswa Bangla Marketing Corporation is totally owned by it, and is not a private entity. Rajiva Sinha, secretary to state MSME and textile departments had said Biswa Bangla is not a private company, but a government entity. For all the latest Kolkata News, download Indian Express App
