Govt using police to sabotage cases: IUML

The Indian Union Muslim League (IUML) State secretariat has raised serious concerns over the recent political killings and the police allegedly remaining mute spectators to them. He said that the political violence in the State, especially in Kannur district, was not an isolated incident. It was unfortunate that the government used the police to sabotage cases, Mr. Kunhalikutty said. A meeting of the party secretariat here on Thursday adopted a resolution demanding that the State government take immediate steps to bring the perpetrators of the conspiracy and crime to book. Replying to questions, he said that his party hoped that the Kerala Congress (M) would return to the United Democratic Front fold.

The murder of Youth Congress functionary S.V. Shuhaib, who was hacked to death at Edayannur near Mattannur in Kannur district early this week followed the same pattern in the killings of Muslim Students Federation worker Ariyil Shukoor and Revolutionary Marxist Party founder T.P. Chandrasekharan earlier, IUML national general secretary P.K. Kunhalikutty told a news conference. He said that the political violence in the State, especially in Kannur district, was not an isolated incident. Proactive measures should be adopted to stop the violence. It was unfortunate that the government used the police to sabotage cases, Mr. Kunhalikutty said. Replying to questions, he said that his party hoped that the Kerala Congress (M) would return to the United Democratic Front fold.
