more-in Leader of the Opposition in the Assembly Ramesh Chennithala has said that the CPI(M) has become a terror outfit as it has been found to be involved in a series of killings in the State. At a news conference here on Tuesday, he said the meticulously planned murder of Youth Congress worker S.P. Shuhaib at Edayannur in Kannur last week was the latest in a chain of violent incidents in the district. The police team investigating the case should bring to light the real conspirators behind the crime. CPI(M) State secretary Kodiyeri Balakrishnan was believed to be aware of the names of the masterminds behind the brutal murder, he alleged. Stating that he did not trust the current investigation team, Mr. Chennithala charged the police with shielding the real accused. The probe is being carried out by Kannur Range Inspector General of Police Mahipal Yadav. However, he had already obtained permission to join duty on Central deputation. Mr. Chennithala asked how such a police officer could be tasked with the investigation. He said the Director General of Police (North Zone) Rajesh Dewan had clarified that there had been a conspiracy behind the murder of Shuhaib. The Congress leader questioned why a case under Section 120 B (criminal conspiracy) of the Indian Penal Code had not been registered. It seemed as if the government wanted to help someone in the case, he said. Mr. Chennithala said the Chief Minister had taken six days to respond to a murder that took place in his home district even as he found time to respond to a row over a film song on Facebook.
