Tasty Malabari fare draws visitors

Pootikkarayunna cake (crying cake) and fried ice cream are the other items that incite the curiosity of visitors. Besides the well-known variety delicacies, for which the Thekkeppuram region of Kozhikode city is known, the festival offers the famed Thalasseri cuisine. Along with Pidichakittatha Beef and Beef Adichuparathiyathu, they are some of the weirdest delicacies available at the Malabari Food Fest - 2018 under way on Kozhikode Beach. A makeshift wooden boat at the entrance of the food festival features different variety of fish that visitors can select and get cooked in whatever way they choose. The festival, organised by the Calicut Food Club, is a haven for foodies who want to explore traditional cuisines and some less known delicacies of north Kerala.

Various types of cake, pudding, falooda, juice and ice-cream make it a favourable spot for the new generation as well. A stall featuring ‘nostalgic sweets’ takes one back to the school days when the Thenmittayi, chikkis, mint candies, lollypops, naranga mittayi, and jeeraka mittayi made the days worthwhile. The festival will conclude on Sunday.
