more-in Prof. Debashis Chatterjee, who took charge as Director of Indian Institute of Management Kozhikode (IIM-K), for the second time on Friday said that the institute planned to work closely with the State government to strengthen governance efficiency and support development and welfare programmes. The institute will also associate with small and medium enterprises in the State and launch new programmes in areas such as maritime management as Kozhikode has been historically a seafaring and coastal city. The institute did not have a full- time director for nearly four years after he completed his term from 2009 to 2014. Besides, the IIM-K is the first institute to appoint its own director autonomously after the President gave concurrence to the Indian Institute of Management Bill, 2017, on December 31. Prof. Chatterjee had created history by increasing the enrolment of women up to 54% in the flagship postgraduate programme. The institute has plans to enhance the quality and volume of education and international linkages, by attracting highly talented faculty of international standing and administrative experts. Enduring impact The IIM-K, he said, would strive to make an enduring impact in solving industrial, organisational and social problems and in uplifting the quality of management practices in India.
