more-in Seven more families are waiting for their turn to move out from relief camps opened by the Revenue Department at Kattippara following the recent landslip. There are as many as 20 persons in two camps, and they will be relocated to rented houses at the earliest. However, the search for rented accommodation is still on even as some house owners have been expressing reluctance to hand over their houses. At the same time, the authorities are making efforts to find houses in nearby villages for the affected families. According to a panchayat member, some house owners are suspicious of the timely shifting of families after the termination of rental agreements. As the government too is involved in the payment of rent, which has already been fixed, they are worried about the technicalities involved in obtaining the rent and the security amount, he said. Till the rehabilitation of the families, their day-to-day expenses will be borne by the grama panchayat. Along with the panchayat authorities, a number of voluntary organisations and charity groups make efforts to ensure the safe stay of those accommodated in relief camps. The affected families have been accommodated in a building constructed for the Kattippara Primary Health Centre and a room at the nearby school. House construction Incidentally, some of those who were earlier accommodated at relief camps have found houses on their own. They are now waiting for government aid to begin construction of houses or repair the damaged ones. Meanwhile, the disbursal of assistance sanctioned by the State government will begin on Tuesday for selected family members of the 14 persons who were killed in the landslip. Five of the eligible beneficiaries have already opened their bank accounts, and the money will be directly credited to the accounts. The financial assistance sanctioned for three other beneficiaries will be credited soon after they open the bank accounts. Compressor in custody Meanwhile, the police on Monday took into possession parts of a compressor which was allegedly used by private land developers for construction work atop the Karinchola hill. The machine parts that were buried under the soil during the landslip were recovered by the rescue team. The police said that the parts recovered would be a solid evidence to prove the charges against the construction team and proceed with further legal actions against offenders.
