more-in The stop memo issued by the Kerala State Disaster Management Authority on a theme park owned by P.V. Anvar, MLA, at Kakkadampoyil in Koodaranhi grama panchayat in Kozhikode district is unlikely to be lifted any time soon. This comes in the wake of an expert committee set up by the district administration recommending a comprehensive study into the ecological susceptibility of the region where the park is situated. The panel, constituted primarily to study the reasons that led to the Kattippara landslip in the district, had also examined the reasons behind a minor landslip that occurred adjacent to the park after heavy rain last month. There was no casualty as there are no houses in the vicinity. Interim report The panel involving scientists from the Centre for Water Resources Development and Management and officials from government departments such as Mining and Geology had submitted its interim report a few days ago. It is learnt that a detailed study by a Central agency has been proposed to figure out the ecological damage in the areas where landslips were reported. District Collector U.V. Jose told The Hindu on Sunday that the notice served on the park would be valid till further orders were issued. “A report suggesting a detailed study in the area will be submitted to the State government in the coming days,” he added. The Kerala High Court had issued a notice to the State government and the MLA on a petition seeking demolition of the park run by the MLA. The petition filed by the All Kerala River Protection Council, Aluva, sought to dismantle a dam constructed by Mr. Anvar in Malappuram district and restore the natural course of the stream and recover the cost for restoration from him.
