Following the declaration of red alert, control rooms have been opened in Thamarassery (0495-2223088), Vadakara (0496-2522361), Koyilandy (0496-2620235) and Kozhikode (0495-22372966) taluks.

At a meeting of the Disaster Management Authority here on Friday, Collector U.V. Jose asked the engineering wings of both the departments to adopt scientific measures to avert the damage to check-dams and bridges caused by the sudden accumulation of wreckage and debris. One of the aims is to adopt a feasible mechanism that can block uprooted trees and other wreckage at least 50 metres away from the identified bridges. Mr. Jose said there were no financial constraints at present to meet the rehabilitation requirements and for emergency rescue operations. “If needed, emergency rescue accessories can be purchased or hired from service providers. On Saturday and Sunday, all the offices of the Revenue Department and local self-government institutions will function in the district,” he added. Farmers hit hard Revenue Department officials said the two days’ heavy rain hit the agriculture sector very badly and the crop loss was very high compared to that of the past years. In just two days, the agriculture sector suffered a total loss of ?1.34 crore, they said, adding that the district-level report seeking compensation for farmers would be submitted to the State government soon. Following the declaration of red alert, control rooms have been opened in Thamarassery (0495-2223088), Vadakara (0496-2522361), Koyilandy (0496-2620235) and Kozhikode (0495-22372966) taluks. A round-the-clock control room (0495-2371002) is functional at the Collectorate for offering emergency communications.
