more-in Notwithstanding the bad weather, the Kerala State Electricity Board (KSEB) is confident of restoring power supply in a majority of the areas in Kozhikode, Malappuram and Palakkad districts soon. KSEB engineers said more than half of the 800 transformers which were shut down because of heavy rain could be switched on if the weather improved a bit. “We are facing some serious challenges under the Purathur electrical section in Malappuram district, where around 40 transformers have been fully submerged in water. It will take some time to clear the issues and resume the supply,” said KSEB Chief Engineer S. Parameswaran. He added that a majority of the other transformers could be charged on completion of the mandatory safety inspections. As of now, there are about one lakh consumers fully hit by the disruption of power supply. Under some of the electrical sections, supply has been regulated following safety concerns. Meanwhile, no power supply regulation is in place in areas where the relief camps have been opened. KSEB engineers said they were technically equipped to isolate a particular problem spot and supply power to neighbouring areas. “In Kozhikode, Palakkad and Malappuram districts, there are several such spots where we constantly monitor the situations,” they added. Spot support has already been offered to a large number of emergency calls received through the State-level KSEB helpline, 1912. Officials said a majority of the calls were related to the disconnection of damaged power supply lines. There were also calls to reinstate supply in some of the disaster-hit locations, they said.
