Employee sacked for Facebook comments

Yusuff Ali, has summarily dismissed an employee for making offensive remarks on a Kerala flood relief enquiry on Facebook. “I was in an inebriated state when I posted that message,” Rahul said in the post. A Lulu Group official, quoted by Khaleej Times, said the company had sacked Rahul “to send out a very loud and clear message to society.” Mr. Rahul, who hails from Kozhikode district, later publicly apologised in a Facebook video for his crude comments. (Another news report said Rahul had, in response to a query over sanitary napkin needs, retorted if he could provide condoms instead of napkins.)

Dubai-based Khaleej Times reported that Rahul C.P., a cashier at Lulu Hypermart at Bousher in Oman, had made fun of the sanitary napkin needs of of the flood victims. (Another news report said Rahul had, in response to a query over sanitary napkin needs, retorted if he could provide condoms instead of napkins.) “This is to inform you that we have decided to terminate your services with immediate effect because of your highly insensitive and derogatory comments on social media with regard to the current flood situation in Kerala, India,” Lulu Group International noted in the termination letter. Mr. Rahul, who hails from Kozhikode district, later publicly apologised in a Facebook video for his crude comments. “I was in an inebriated state when I posted that message,” Rahul said in the post. A Lulu Group official, quoted by Khaleej Times, said the company had sacked Rahul “to send out a very loud and clear message to society.”
