A volunteer team from Kanhangad engaged in relief efforts in Chalakudi town in Thrissur on Sunday. more-in Onathoni, 34-member skilled volunteer team from here, is at Chalakudy in Thrissur on a five-day camp to assist the flood-hit in reconstructing their buildings and other properties. The team members reached the town by bus arranged by the Kanhangad RTO. On Sunday morning, they began work on replacing the damaged equipment and other essential equipment to make the houses habitable. The operations are being supervised by Chalakudy municipal chairperson Jayanthi Praveen and municipal councillors. The team includes electricians, plumbers, masons, painters, and carpenters, Kodakkad Narayanan, team captain and Headmaster of A.C. Kannan Nair Memorial government UP School, told The Hindu over phone. “Floodwaters have caused extensive damage to crucial buildings, including Taluk hospitals, and the municipality is working hard in coordinating various relief operations, Mr. Narayanan said. The local team’s visit to Chalakudy was facilitated by Kanhangad municipal chairman V.V. Rameshan who interacted with his counterpart in Chalakudy. The team would fan out its activities to areas identified by the local municipality and strive to rebuild the damaged buildings, and other infrastructure facilities besides clearing of heaps of waste, Mr. Narayanan said.
