All schools in Kozhikode to reopen today

All schools in the district will reopen on Wednesday after the Onam vacation and almost another closed week forced by the monsoon fury. Meanwhile, Kozhikode-based TBS Publishers and Distributors will distribute 15,000 notebooks, school bags, and other study materials for free to flood-hit students. Waterlogging in a primary health centre (PHC) at Kakkodi had forced the authorities to relocate it to the nearby government lower primary school. Cleaning has been going on since August 23 as around hundred schools had been turned into relief camps after the devastating floods. The Deputy Director of Education has directed headmasters and headmistresses to submit a list of students who had lost belongings.

Students, teachers, parents, and local residents had joined hands in the cleaning drive apart from members of the National Cadet Corps and Scouts and Guides. Waterlogging in a primary health centre (PHC) at Kakkodi had forced the authorities to relocate it to the nearby government lower primary school. The PHC will continue to function in the school and two classrooms have been shifted to the nearby block resource centre building. An old building of the Raroth Higher Secondary School had collapsed too. Work on a new building is progressing there and classes will start there soon. The furniture was damaged in rains in a school in Cheruvannoor. Distribution of books Education Department sources said steps would be taken to distribute materials such as notebooks, school bags, instrument boxes, and uniforms to those who had lost them in the floods. A meeting of assistant educational officers and district educational officers had been called on Thursday to take stock of the situation. The Deputy Director of Education has directed headmasters and headmistresses to submit a list of students who had lost belongings.
