Directed by Devadas Kalluritti, the cast of Mounaksharangal were selected through a Statewide talent hunt, though the inmates of Regional Deaf Centre, Thamarasseri, form a major part of it.

Directed by Devadas Kalluritti, the cast of Mounaksharangal were selected through a Statewide talent hunt, though the inmates of Regional Deaf Centre, Thamarasseri, form a major part of it. They had to undergo training for over five months to learn to move their lips in a way that seems natural, as they are not used to it. The 70-member cast has Sreelakshmi, Ashif, Madhu and Akhila in the lead roles. The idea of a movie with a complete hearing impaired cast came up at an expo held at the Regional Deaf Centre a few months ago. “We wanted to bring out the talents of the deaf people around us,” said Baveesh Bal, associate director. The movie is produced by Ramesh Mavoor while Rajeev Kouthukam is the cinematographer. Shot in Palakkad and Kozhikode, the movie revolves around a mother who tries her best to get her daughter some training in music. But the circumstances play out in such a way that the duo had to face the wrath of the moral policing brigade. With music having a strong presence in the plot, the movie has four songs composed by Salam Veeroli on the lyrics of Premdas Guruvayur. They have been rendered by Biju Narayanan, Shreya Jayadeep, Sindhu Premkumar and Jyothi Krishna. The film is expected to be released in October.
