Almost all government schools in the district initiated voluntary fund collection under PTA leadership to support relief efforts. In addition to sourcing of crowdfunding, many city and rural schools are on the field with their own individual projects to support the renovation of flood-hit schools and lend a hand to the academic needs of displaced students. Both government and private schools are active in the campaign in which students coordinate door-to-door collections using neighbourhood networks. The Government Vocational Higher Secondary School for Girls, Nadakkavu, alone managed to mobilise a sum of ?10 lakh for the relief fund, setting a successful model of charity-driven campaign. Fuelling the spirit of charity among students, Parent-Teacher Associations (PTA) at various schools have taken the lead in sourcing crowdfunding possibilities and mobilising a special aid to the Chief Minister’s Relief Fund for the speedy rehabilitation of students in flood-hit areas.
