More adalats to fast-track reissue of lost documents

A fast-track clearance of applications from flood-hit people for reissue of important documents is being accorded top priority, as the district administration is planning to conduct more adalats for the purpose. Though floods and landslips caused huge damage in various villages in Thamarassery taluk, the number of applications submitted for reissue of lost documents was quite less compared to that in other taluks. Revenue Department officials said a majority of applications they had recently processed within the Kozhikode taluk limits related to reissue of Aadhaar and voter identity cards. Revenue, Registration and Panchayat departments have put in place their own mechanisms to help people secure copies of required documents in time. The Education Department has also come up with its own measures to address the grievances of students who have lost their certificates.

Revenue, Registration and Panchayat departments have put in place their own mechanisms to help people secure copies of required documents in time. Applications pertaining to loss of identity proofs, passports, and land documents will be given priority. The Education Department has also come up with its own measures to address the grievances of students who have lost their certificates. Revenue Department officials said a majority of applications they had recently processed within the Kozhikode taluk limits related to reissue of Aadhaar and voter identity cards. Of the 229 applications already received, 95 were settled with the support of various departments, they added. As grievances about loss of driving licences and vehicle registration certificates were found to be high, the Motor Vehicles Department (MVD) decided to set up special counters at the forthcoming adalats at Thamarassery, Vadakara, Koyilandy and Kozhikode taluks. Officials at the Regional Transport Office said they would be able to address taluk-level grievances within a month. Though floods and landslips caused huge damage in various villages in Thamarassery taluk, the number of applications submitted for reissue of lost documents was quite less compared to that in other taluks. Officials said fast-track services would be made available widely among villagers to ensure their participation in the drive. A local body member from Thamarassery taluk said villagers in the affected areas were still not aware of the services available at the special adalats, and that they were apprehensive about the “tedious procedures” involved. According to him, taluk-level camps should be extended to all panchayats in such a way that all affected regions got more focus.
