more-in The Health Department on Sunday concluded its two-day campaign to ward off the possible threat of epidemic outbreaks in the district. According to V. Jayasree, District Medical Officer, the drive focused on flood-affected areas and places from where infectious diseases had been reported of late. Volunteers, Accredited Social Health Activists, Kudumbashree members, and local clubs participated in the programme within the limits of the Kozhikode city corporation, municipalities, and grama panchayats. Waste treatment The stress was on mosquito eradication and source-level treatment of waste, as the activists distributed pamphlets after conducting door-to-door visits. The ongoing cleanliness drives in wards will continue. Meanwhile, there has been a significant dip in the number of leptospirosis cases in the district. There were no confirmed cases or deaths on Sunday. The number of suspected cases came down to five on the day. ‘ Doxy corners’ are functioning at all government hospitals and health centres to distribute Doxycycline tablets for free. Sixteen new temporary clinics have been opened, and two mobile clinics too were engaged for service.
