The Green Carnival, that was conducted at the Kozhikode beach on Tuesday was the venue for many such contributions, rightly termed “Karunya Kaineettam”, from street singer Babu to Labour Minister T.P. Ramakrishnan. All together, the organisers made a contribution of more than ?1 lakh towards the fund. The Green Carnival, an amalgamation of art, food, music, environment awareness and social awareness, was organised by the Kozhikode District Panchayat in association with Green Care Mission, the Sign Printing Industries Association and Lissah College, Kaithappoyil. The event was opened by Mayor Thottathil Raveendran while Mr. Ramakrishnan; M.K. Raghavan, MP; M.K. Muneer, MLA; and District Panchayat President Babu Parasseri, dropped in during the seven-hour-long festival. The Carnival was divided into various sections including an eco fest, Beach Biennale, and pottery sessions. Beach biennale While eco-friendly products such as herbal mosquito repellents, insecticides, pesticides, terracotta utensils, water purifiers and novel waste management equipment attracted a section of the gathering, the artists who came together for the “Beach Biennale” too had much following. The artists contributed 50% of their collection from the sale of art works at the venue to the CMDRF. “Tunography”, the art of combining painting and singing by Ilyas and the Love Shore band comprising differently abled children were the major attractions of the carnival.
