Control rooms opened in taluks

These control rooms will function 24x7 under the Revenue Department in Kozhikode, Koyilandy, Vadakara and Thamarassery taluks. District Collector U.V. Jose, who reviewed the safety measures taken by various departments such as Revenue, Fire and Rescue Service, Police, Fisheries and Local Self-Government at a meeting of the District Disaster Management Authority here on Thursday, said the alert would be continued till getting a safety alert from the IMD. He appealed to fishermen not to venture into the sea till October 7 in the wake of a cyclonic depression in the Arabian Sea. Those already in the sea should come back immediately, he said. Mr. Jose asked rescue operators to be vigilant in all the landslip-prone areas in the district and stay prepared to offer emergency support to the needy round-the-clock. He also cautioned people residing in the hilly regions to be alert and adopt safety measures based on the instructions from the rescue operators. The revenue officials said all arrangements were made to open relief camps in case of any emergency situation. On Friday, a meeting would be held at the Collectorate to discuss the management of water level in Kuttiyadi dam. People’s representatives and government officers would attend the meeting, they added.
