LUCKNOW: Less than a week after the Dalit Mahasabha felicitated chief minister Yogi Adityanath with the 'Dalit Mitra' award, its president Lalji Prasad Nirmal was appointed chairperson of the Uttar Pradesh Scheduled Caste Finance and Development Corporation.Brij Lal, who was DGP in the Mayawati government, has been appointed chairperson of the SC-ST Commission.The Dalit body's decision to award the CM was mired in controversy with some of its founding members objecting to the decision saying Daits across the country were being harassed under the BJP regime.The day the award was presented to the CM, on the occasion of Ambedkar Jayanti on April 14, some of the members were arrested during a protest demonstration outside the venue.SR Darapuri, a lifetime member of the Mahasabha said: "Dr Nirmal’s announcement was not on behalf of the Mahasabha. At every level Dalit’s are being harassed so why is he giving an award to the CM? After the April 2 protest, where outsiders joined rallies and tried to malign the Dalit movement by indulging in violence, action was taken against Dalits in UP.
