Six 'lose' sight after surgery, operated upon again

VARANASI: Six patients reported loss of sight after undergoing cataract surgery at an eye camp organized by a charitable hospital. When the patients came for check up on Friday, they complained of loss of eyesight. Marwadi Hospital authorities suspect that the washing liquid used on patients caused the infection.CMO Singh said that samples of the washing liquid and other medicines used by the hospital in the surgeries have been sent for test. The hospital authorities immediately sent the patients for CT Scan, which showed some post-surgical infection to be causing the complication and referred them to a private hospital.DM Yogeshwar Ram Mishra constituted a five-member team to probe the matter. The patients were referred to a private hospital where they were operated upon for a post-surgery infection and were cured, said chief medical officer (CMO) VB Singh on Sunday.On June 12, the six patients, all between 50 and 65 years of age, underwent cataract surgery at Marwadi Hospital.The patients were asked to visit the hospital for follow-up after 72 hours.
