AGRA: A 37-year-old teacher, the wife of an Uttar Pradesh policeman, was allegedly sexually harassed by a local BJP leader on Friday. The woman was also brutally thrashed by the accused man’s relatives after she approached police for help. She has suffered partial hearing loss in the right ear and fractures to an arm. The entire incident of thrashing was caught in a CCTV camera. Following the assault, an FIR was lodged against seven accused, all of whom are absconding.According to police, the crime took place at Bijauli village under Bah police jurisdiction of Agra. The accused, Atul Chauhan, is the vice president of BJP Kisan Morcha’s Agra unit.“I was getting my children ready for school when Chauhan, who was standing in front of his house, suddenly flashed and asked me to hold it. I immediately left the house to drop my two kids off at school before heading to the police station for help. No formal complaint was filed but the officers said that they would detain Chauhan for questioning,” said the woman.The victim, an assistant teacher at a government primary school, is the wife of an inspector posted at the Fatehgarh training centre of UP Police.“As soon as I reached home, Chauhan’s wife and other relatives, who were waiting with batons, charged at me. Later, I informed my husband over phone. He came in the evening and took me to the police station where an FIR was lodged against the accused people,” added the woman.Chauhan has been booked under IPC section 354 A (physical contact and advances involving unwelcome and explicit sexual overtures). Six of his relatives, including his mother Bitti Devi, wife (name not known), sisters-in-law Kiran, Rani and Shagun, and brother Raju, were booked under section 452 (trespassing), 147 (riot), 323 (voluntarily causing hurt), 504 (intentional insult with an intent to provoke breach of trust) and 506 (criminal intimidation) of the IPC.The victim’s husband said, “This is not the first time when my wife has been sexually harassed by Chauhan. But the local police have never filed any FIR before.”Circle officer of Bah, Satyam (who goes by his first name), said, “The CCTV camera installed at the victim’s house has captured the incident. The accused will be arrested soon.”
